A step-by-step guide to installing a Foredom double motor hanger with mounting clamp, from bench thickness checks to hanging two motors safely.

Quick answer

Mount the MABC-1 clamp on a bench top no thicker than 2-1/4 inches, set the three-piece hexagonal rod to a comfortable height, then hang one or two Foredom motors from the top safety hook. Check clamp tightness and rod height before you power up.

Why bench thickness decides your mounting options

The MABC-1 clamp is rated for bench tops up to 2-1/4 inches thick. Measure your actual bench top at the mounting spot, not at the edge where a trim piece or finish may add thickness. If your bench is thicker, this clamp will not seat correctly, and no amount of tightening will make it safe for two motors.

What the double hanger does and does not include

The MAMH-1 package includes the three-piece hexagonal support rod, the top safety hook rod that holds one or two motors, the MABC-1 bench clamp, and an MAHR-2 handpiece rest that slides onto the rod. It does not include motors, handpieces, or the Foredom Work Bench System Component Arms. Those component arms are not compatible with the MAMH-1 rod, so plan your bench layout around the hanger as a standalone support rather than a modular arm system.

When a single motor is the better choice

Running two motors on one hanger saves bench space, but it also puts both motors within reach of the same work area. If your bench is narrow or you frequently switch between very different bits, a single motor setup may reduce clutter and accidental contact. The hanger supports two motors, but your workflow should decide whether you actually need both mounted at once.

Step-by-step double motor hanger installation

  1. Measure bench thickness at the mounting point: Use a ruler or caliper to confirm the bench top is no more than 2-1/4 inches thick where the clamp will sit. Check for under-bench braces or drawers that could block the clamp. If the bench is too thick, choose a different bench or a different mounting method before proceeding.
  2. Attach the MABC-1 clamp to the bench: Slide the clamp onto the bench edge and tighten the screw until the clamp is firmly seated. Do not overtighten; the clamp should not dent or crush the bench surface. Test the clamp by pulling it gently; any movement means it is not secure enough for two motors.
  3. Assemble and insert the three-piece hexagonal rod: Join the rod sections and slide the rod into the clamp receiver. Set the rod height so the top hook is above your work area but still easy to reach. A rod that is too high forces you to reach up; too low puts motors in your line of sight.
  4. Lock the rod height with the clamp locking screw: Tighten the locking screw on the clamp to hold the rod at your chosen height. Confirm the rod cannot slide down when you press on it. Recheck this screw after the first day of use; vibration can loosen it slightly.
  5. Hang one or two motors on the top safety hook: Hang each motor by its own hanger loop or bail on the top safety hook rod. Keep the motors spaced apart so their cables and handpieces do not tangle. Never hang more than two motors; the hook is designed for one or two only.
  6. Slide the MAHR-2 handpiece rest onto the rod: Attach the included handpiece rest at a comfortable height below the motors. Rest each handpiece in the rest when not in use to keep cables organized. The rest is for handpieces, not for supporting motor weight.
  7. Check cable routing and test run: Route each motor's power cord away from the work area and confirm the foot control or switch is reachable. Run each motor briefly at low speed to check for vibration or movement. If the hanger shifts during the test, stop and retighten the clamp and locking screw.
